The Demo "level" of FutureWorld is almost finished, that is the 3d modeling aspect of the level itself. Some textures will have to be applied yet, and there will be some fine tuning yet. Now it's time to get crackin' on character modeling, as well as other important aspects of the game to get the demo finish by our proposed deadline of December 22nd 1998. (actual deadline Spring '98)
Then it will be time to finish all final preparations for submitting it to GT InterActive for evaluation.

Look for some favorite StarWars, Indy, StarTrek, etc. AVI animations on the download page soon to come...we thought we would try our new video capture system with a few known "video's" before we ourselves use it for publishing.
These animations will be complete with sound at a 320x240 frame size, we may make a few "small" thumnail size ones with no sound, for "chatroom" usage to post as a "pic".

One of our next New game concepts, (yet to be announced), was "Laid-out" today, now for the submission for the "copyright people", so I can post it without any leaches sucking on the idea. Which I myself think is a new and Great idea for a new game.
Hint: it will be a first person/3rd person...adventure game.

Using The Unreal editor "UnrealED Beta" has been both fun and
aggravating, I myself am used to using 3D Studio Max,
and Lightwave3D.
For a beta, it has much potential to be, (and in some cases it is), the best Level editor
for 3D games ever.
I decided that soon I will devote a page to UnrealED techniques, mostly since I notice
there are virtually a small number of tutorials available and none for more complex uses
of the game engine. The link will show in the side menuboard (Frames only), or
scroll down to the menu at the bottom of this page, (browsers with "no frames").
So stay tuned for this too...

FutureWorld will use the UNREAL game engine, as will "The Unholy", this decision has been reached after a careful comparison between the Quake, Quake 2, JediKnight, and The UnReal Game Engines. Originally considered earlier was the "build" engine, now profoundly outdated and limited.
The JediKnight engine has little available utilities availible, and level editing is difficult to do. As for character animating and modeling...you have to create you character in "pieces"; head,arms,legs,etc..and would have to choose an animation/puppet file to use instead of being able to create your own animations. This was to be expected since all the available tools are not from any LucasArts source. Also, usage and licensing the engine (according to some sources) is limited to use by LucasArts only. So at the risk of learning to use difficult limited "Netware" from second party Jedi fans, only to discover I cannot license the engine, I decided to go with the unreal engine.
This is what I liked about the JEDI' Engine.
Runs quite well on the lowRes mode on a 133mhz Dx4 486 CPU. and with huge levels and a colorful palette.
Yes, the levels are very large and the is no "loading" routine dividing one mission into several small maps that need to be loaded during gameplay. even the UnReal engine does this. But not the Jedi Engine.
Lifelike movement and creative AI on the characters. Hell, you Laser sword battle some of these these guys, they have to be realistic...no wonder why the game was delayed upon it's release.
Inserted cuttscenes during a level to enhance movie like drama...this was in the Mysteries of the Sith game but still the Jedi engine. (I would like to applaud the excellent cuttscene "movies" on this game also!)
Footstep sounds, vocal comments, Breakable glass, Duke3d like security cameras, great ship flyby attacks, access to gun turrets and mobile vehicles. This engine seems to be able to be used for any Storyline...and is maybe only second to UnReal's in some ways but first in many others.
UnReal's pluses over Jedi are of Course Graphics. here are some more detailed "Better" features that UnReal has over the Jedi engine:
Higher Res texturing
volumetric fog
Larger color palette
better Sky texturing
better water texturing, including reflection.
More lighting effects
Here's Quake2's pluses over Unreal:
Better monsters
changing "Skins" as you inflict damage, more blood etc. appears on monster...(plus over Jediknight maybe)
great gore!
SO, Why not the QUAKE2 Engine???:
Large maps are impossible it seems...canyons scenes like in jedi, UnReal and Duke are out of the Quake World boundary limitations...a BIG drawback here since we will need to create an elaborate outdoor world as well as indoor environments. I notice too many "loading" dialogs pop up after a short trip through a map.
If I gotta have lag we might as well go all out, as I said I played all of Jediknight will almost no lag on a 133mhz 486. While Qukae2's cuttscenes and gamepaly was extremely choppy! Quake2 is more of a WarGame, than a science fantasygame like Unreal, duke, Jedi, and of Course FutureWorld.

The F.P.S. game "The UnHoly" will be delayed pending the release of "FutureWorld". This is
part due to the onslaught of "Horror" theme games, while a lack of good
sci-fi/fantasy games in the first person shooter format. Notably,When development
reconvenes, The UnHoly will use the UnReal game engine. At this time there are no future
release dates available.
stay tuned!!!
